Your Website’s Purpose
What is the purpose or goal of your website?
This is the most important question you should consider when designing your website. Think about what you want your website to do. The answer to this question will guide every other part of your web design process. Here are some typical responses to this question:
- To provide information about my company, business, products, services, etc.
- To share information, pictures, etc. with a group of friends, family, colleagues, or network.
- To sell items or services that I provide
- To sell items from other stores and earn an “affiliate” commission
- To showcase my photography
- To teach others how to do something
- To attract more clients to my business, company, products, services, etc.
- To provide an online community for users to communicate and share ideas on a particular subject or topic
- To provide my existing customers or clients with information
Now that you’ve identified your website’s purpose or goal …
Now that you’ve thought about what the goal of your website is, you should be ready to move ahead in your web design process. You may have selected more than one goal, which is fine. You may have thought of something not listed above. That’s great too. You’re getting closer to knowing what you want and what you need for your website. Now you can start looking at types of websites to determine which one(s) will meet your needs (based on the goal(s) you’ve just identified).
